III. Biblical Manhood Mentoring, Lesson 3: Regaining Masculinity.
Read: 1 Corinthians 16:13 ACT LIKE MEN.
There are several things that rob men of their true God-ordained masculinity.
Today’s study focuses on 1 of them: Secrecy.
1. Masculinity doesn’t mean that we never sin, but it is cultivated by honest transparency in our lives. Honesty with yourself and God, along with transparency with your pastor or some godly leader in your church life. (James 5:16)
2. David was a true man’s man–a mighty man. He said, ‘when I kept silent about my sin, I wasted away…’ (Psalm 32). Your potential and your power are wasted when you carry around secret sin, unconfessed and un-dealt with. If more men knew how much power and potency they lose in life, through secrecy, they would not tolerate it.
3. It is always better to err on the side of exposing something you are struggling with (with a trusted leader in your church; not just a ‘buddy’). Luke 12:2 says, whatever is hidden, will come to the light. And Jesus said, the things uttered in darkness will be exposed. When we BRING our situation to the light (1 John 1:7), there is no way it can hurt us or expose us later.
4. Understand: Darkness is not our ‘home field advantage’. Darkness is where the devil has expertise. When we hide sin, or try to hide what we are doing or not doing, from God and others, we are going to lose to the home team of darkness. But OUT in the LIGHT, we have our advocate, Jesus, fighting on our behalf. (1 John 2:1)
Questions of the Week:
Is there a secret sin or hidden area of your life, that you are willing to admit?
Are you afraid that if you were to expose it, someone would take advantage of you, or there is something significant that you would lose?
What are those things?
If you desire help, submit your name and situation to email@example.com. And someone will respond. Or at the next church service you attend, go to one of the leaders after service and ask for prayer.
Assignment for the week:
Read Psalm 32
Read Joshua, chapter 7
Declaration of Manhood:
I reject secrecy from my life today. I refuse to give Satan the home field advantage, by living in darkness and hiding any secret sin or area of my life. I receive the power of forgiveness for anything I confess to God. He is faithful to forgive me and cleanse me from all unrighteousness. I choose to live an open life that is honest before God and transparent before godly leaders in my life, in Jesus’ Name.
